Spring But Not Quite Spring

Some tips on how to dress when the weather can swing back and forth more than my moods.

Hi friends!

It’s been a long week and I’ve slowly gotten back into the rhythm of life after my trip to Yosemite.

Spring is right around the corner and it’s that time of year where the weather is a little bit all over the place. It’s not quite warm enough for shorts but the days of down jackets and thick scarves are hopefully behind us.

It’s making me yearn to bust out my too-big collection of dresses and frolic in the flowers. While I can’t exactly do that right now, I can cook up some outfits and tips that give spring vibes during a chilly day.

  1. Cold? We don’t know her.

I’m a sucker for dresses so I can’t resist wearing one even when my legs are sporting goosebumps. To get away with this when it’s chilly, I just put on a pair of thick socks and some tall boots and I’ll add a blazer, sweater, or scarf to keep my top warm and then you just sacrifice your legs and call it a day.

I’ve been waiting to bust out this amazing Reformation dress and pairing it with the blazer created a beautiful mix of textures that somehow say spring and winter at the same time. I added a pop of color in my handbag that juxtaposed nicely to the blazer.

2. Layered Fun

The easiest way to dress when the weather is all over the place? Layers.

This is an obvious one but I figured I’d throw my version into the pot. Here, I paired a thick sweater over a flowy dress, juxtaposing the two themes, and then added a denim jacket for extra warmth. I kept it fun with my amazing Coach x Pacman bag and some funky socks.

Bonus points if you make your dress into a skirt which is my holy grail style advice and if it gets too hot I can take off my jacket and if it’s too cold I can swap out my trusted sneakers for some tall boots.

3. Monochromatic Mayhem

Is dressing in all whites boring or chic? I think it’s rad but to each their own.

Various shades of white dominate my closet and I can’t help but want to dress in it all the time. White is that perfect color that goes in all seasons but I think is particularly beautiful in winter (snow) and spring (blossoms).

If your’e not vibing with white, any color monochromatic outfit instantly look put together and super chic so you can never go wrong putting together various tones and shades of the same color. I’ll often pair these outfits with minimal jewelry and a simple hairdo to make the outfit be the standout.

I’d also like to take a moment to tell you how amazing and comfortable these Timberland boots are! I can wear them all day at work and the color and style are versatile for all seasons. A very, very special thanks to my amazing mom for getting me these boots and if you’re in the market for a good, comfortable-yet-fashionable boot, I highly recommend these bad boys!

4. Tip my Hat

Okay, I’ll admit wearing hats and finding hats can be tricky. I, personally, look kind of dumb in most hats but when I found this green newsboy hat at Platos I just had to have it. If you’re lucky and look good in all hats or you happen to find one that suits you, pairing a hat with your outfit gives you winter vibes without the heaviness jackets and scarves can create.

I’ll pair my hat with a coordinating color in my outfit and then keep it simple the rest of the way. Here, I added over the knee boots to elongate my legs and a patterned sweater to add some interest.

5. Baby Blue Babe

Okay, last monochromatic outfit I promise. Here, however, I wanted to show a spring color in layered, winter clothing. A thick, baby blue sweater and slate blue jacket keep me warm and my Agolde jeans are a staple year round for me.

Pastels are also very on point for spring this year so if you come across anything in a sweet lilac, baby blue, or pistachio green swipe it.

6. Fancy Pants

Statement pants are the outfit, nuff said. If you have an amazing pair of pants that packs a punch, wear them pronto. Pants can be so fun and can turn an everyday look into a head turning outfit. You can mix up silhouettes, colors and patterns, and proportions to shake things up and add interest.

These paperbag style pants can be dressed up or down but I opted for a slightly more formal look by adding a beaded top and heeled booties. I’m not quite sure where I’m going in this look but rest assured it’s somewhere important.

Hopefully you got some fun ideas today and I’ll see you guys next week for a special on buying resale!
