Feeling Those Fall Vibes
7 trends I’m loving for fall 2021
Hi Friends!
Despite the lack of actual cool weather here in Colorado, fall has officially arrived and October is mere days away. This means that I can obsess over is comfy sweaters, falling leaves, and all things pumpkin. The leaves are beginning to change and with it, our wardrobes change as well.
Fall/winter fashion week has come and gone, setting this seasons trends and colors. These are the 7 styles I’ve been drooling over lately and will be looking to incorporate into my wardrobe. Here are my top picks for this season’s trends for fall 2021!
Modern Prep with a Retro Twist
Retro is always in but especially for fall it seems it’s making a comeback in a big way. Plaid, houndstooth, and pleating is the name of the game and I am here for it. Think: all of Cher’s fabulous outfits from Clueless and then go watch that movie because it’s fire.
The great thing about this trend is it’s so easy to find retro and prep styles secondhand. Update them by altering them, pairing them with modern pieces, or just leaving as is for a look that’s too cool for school. You can also check the men’s section for boxy blazers, sweater vests, and oversized button downs!
2. Textured Whites
It should come to absolutely no surprise to anyone but I love white year round. It’s the color I have most of in my closet and I think it’s also universally flattering.
I’m so into all of the textured whites I’ve seen this season. From lace, to knits, ribbed dresses, and delicate knitwear. Pairing it with dark colors and leathers or going for warm tones adds interest and can break up the monochrome.
As an added bonus, it lets you wear your spring whites longer by juxtaposing them with your fall pieces which adds longevity and diversity to your closet!
3. Berry Moody
If I could be any cool girl, I’d want to be her. Anthropolgie’s Fall Back In Love collection has me drooling for their moody and dramatic aesthetic, deep cranberry hues, and dark florals that say Persephone is back in the Underworld and she is FIERCE.
You know how I’ve been obsessed with green lately? Well I think this particular shade of deep, cranberry, blood red is my new favorite shade and it goes perfectly with this season’s trends.
4. The Brighter the Better
Bright colors, bold patterns, mixing and matching - everything goes especially the brights. Overall, this really isn’t my cup of tea because I usually prefer more muted tones but you can’t deny that it’s fun and gives a unique take on fall this year.
This one is also super easy to incorporate into your wardrobe using sustainable practices! Because the pieces are so bright, you can go to your local resale store and all you need to do is look for the brightest thing you can find. No need to sift through hangers, the colors will pop on their own!
5. Back to Cool in these Basics
As always, classic fall colors: browns, creams, rusts, and mustards are the go-to color palette that makes you feel warm and comfortable. These pieces are chic and timeless. If you’re looking for a style that will come back year after year, stick to classic pieces and a consistent color palette. No need to keep buying the same things each year, use what you already have and keep investing in pieces that will last.
6. Accessorizing Like a Boss
Fall is one of the best times to experiment and incorporate accessories. They can spice up an outfit and be the detail that ties everything together.
Accessories are a fun way to change your outfits and you can do them on a budget as well! There are so many options and you can find them inexpensive, ethically made, and/or through resale. I don’t have that many accessories but I’m trying to add a few more to my wardrobe this season, especially some hats and tights!
7. Honorable Mentions
I hope you enjoyed seeing my top picks for fall 2021, I had a fun time writing it! As always, use what you already have, purchase consciously, or utilize resale! Your best options are already in your closet. Next time we’ll be diving into something a little different so stay tuned.
