Hi Friends!

Tis I, Hannah Banana, and today, on my 25th birthday, I am starting this blog.

I’ve always had a little bit of a complex about age and 25 somehow feels like a huge turning point in my life. Will it really be? I suppose that’s up to me.

25 marks the end of my early 20’s and brings me solidly into my mid-20’s. Am I still practically a baby? Yes. Do I still have so much of my life to live? Maybe. But do I feel like time is going too quickly and before I know it I’ll be an old woman with a lot of “what ifs” and “should’ve dones”? A resounding YES.

I am solidly in the middle of my quarter life crisis and questions like “who am I”, “what is my purpose”, and “what do I want out of life” seem more pressing than ever. I’m well aware that age is just a mental game but let me tell you I’m being played like a fiddle.

Before I get too philosophical, the point of this is that I need another outlet of creativity that explores one of my favorite passions: fashion. So as I hit this seemingly turning point in my time on earth, I decided to invite you along with me.

The Birth of My Blog

Without further ado welcome to Small Town Big Closet!

Here I’ll be focusing on fashion and styling tips with an emphasis on sustainable and resale clothing that mixes high and low end items.

That’s kind of a mouthful I know but basically my specialty in fashion is quality on a budget and fashion that’s sustainable.

I strive to be a conscious consumer and, while I’m a complete sucker for luxury brands, I often don’t have the budget for it - that’s where resale comes in hand. You can get amazing items at a fraction of the cost and it lets me be a part of the fashion world without breaking the bank to get there.

It’s more important than ever to be aware and mindful of the purchases you make. Everything from how the workers who make the items are treated to how a brand is impacting the planet to the welfare of the animals involved are all important aspects of fashion.

If I could break down my style and fashion philosophy into a small statement it would be this: Quality on a budget and fashion that’s sustainable.

Rapid Fire “About Me"

Now you might be wondering “who is this Hannah Banana person”, well here’s a quick summary.

  • I am the youngest of four children and my best friend is my amazing, angel mother.

  • I have four precious children in the form of cats who are the absolute lights of my life: my baby, Mr. Beans, his mamma the matriarch, Buttercup, my fatso Buddy, and my cranky old lady, Muffin.

  • My top interests in life are: fashion, art, travel, reading, and animals.

  • I graduated from Colorado State University with a Bachelor’s of Science in Psychology

    • I originally wanted to be an animal assisted therapist

  • I have built burritos at Chipotle, delivered thousands of Amazon packages during quarantine, manned a mind numbing desk job, and worked at Macy’s for exactly one day (it was horrible).

  • In terms of careers, I’d either like to stay in the fashion world with styling and sustainability practices or I would also like to go into wildlife conservation through the use of photography.

    • Two completely different fields I know.

  • I am currently a manager at a women’s resale store which helps give me the experience in giving some helpful tips and tricks when it comes to fashion and secondhand!

A Final Note

As mentioned above, I am a manager for a woman’s resale store. We buy like new and gently used items and resell them. I have worked at this job for over four years and I have learned a lot about fashion, quality, styling, fabrication, etc., and picked up a ton of tricks on how to shop secondhand. I’ve always wanted to share what I’ve learned and I think now is the time to do it. Whether it’s something you’re already interested in or if resale is a new concept you’re curious about, I hope I have something to be able to teach or inspire you when it comes to personal style.

ANYWAY

Thank you if you’ve stuck with me this long. I hope this starts something fun and creative and I’d love it if you came along with me for styling tips, fashion inspiration, and sustainable practices. If you so desire, please subscribe as I will have a new post uploaded every week!
